The World Upside-Down/1: If Gender Ideology Becomes Mainstream

From language to schools and children, from sports to TV, transgenderism has never been more fashionable. Anyone who dares to object is insulted, and even attacked

“Fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer.”

Gilbert K. Chesterton‘s famous aphorism describes perfectly our upside-down world, where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is straight and everything else is crooked. A reality where madness has come out of mental hospitals to become law, imposing health treatments based on inclusiveness and tolerance on those who have remained sane.

Ideology and reality

We are talking about the rise of gender ideology, according to which human sexuality is not binary (male-female), but a spectrum of variants upon which one can swing and change at will. Anyone who doesn’t accept it is automatically singled out as a bigot who prevents people trapped in the wrong body from expressing themselves.

Let’s clarify it for those who, like myself, are old school, and think that there are males and females in the world. In short, one is either fish or fowl; you can’t be both, and you can’t switch between groups on a whim.

By sex we mean biological sex, in which males have a pair of XY chromosomes, male genitalia, growth of beard during the puberty, testosterone, etc., while females have XX chromosomes, female genitalia, breasts, estrogen.

Gender on the other hand is the mental perception that everyone has of themselves in relation to their sex. Perception, i.e. ideas and beliefs produced by the brain that, like any ideas and beliefs, can be right (in accordance with the reality) or wrong.

Finally, there are gender roles, i.e. assigning certain tasks to an individual based on their gender. Believing a woman has to stay at home cleaning and raising the children, or conversely that she can become CEO of a multi-million dollar company, means attributing different gender roles to the subject in question, but without ever questioning that housewife, manager, or even war hero, she is still a woman.

Gender Dysphoria

According to Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, the simple fact that almost everyone born as male perceives themselves as males, and that almost all those born as women identify as females, proves that there is statistical non- independence between gender and sex. In other words, they are very closely related to each other. The very few cases of genuine conflict between sex and gender are called gender dysphoria and are, or at least were, treated as behavioral disorders.

Gender ideology challenges all of this, claiming there are people born in the “wrong” body. This is not only false, but also meaningless: if there is a case of gender dysphoria it is not your body that is wrong, but your mind’s perception of reality. In the same way that if your vision is blurred, it is because you are short-sighted, not because it is a foggy day. The approach should therefore be psychological, taking proper care of the mind, not physical, with the castration of healthy children.

Ultimately, it is the same approach used for those suffering from body integrity identity disorder: if you are convinced that your left arm has been amputated, the solution is not to amputate it for real, but to help you accept that your left arm is still there and works just fine.

However, according to the proponents of militant transsexualism, biology is a feeling, and it should surprise that this attitude is often adopted by those who in times of pandemic have repeated like a broken record they trust the science. Science is evidently brought into play only when it’s convenient for them.

The use of pronouns

It is not a question of funny and unconventional opinions, but of orthodoxy of thought to be imposed by excommunicating those who do not comply.

In the United States, a Los Angeles prosecutor was suspended by the district attorney, ultra-leftist George Gascón, for referring to a sexual assault defendant, who identifies as a woman, as a male. In short, the prosecutor used the masculine pronoun he instead of the feminine she. [1]

The matter of pronoun usage plays, as we will see in the second part, a pivotal role in genderism. Once again in California, experimental lab for every possible and imaginable woke degeneration, when a teacher noticed that students had begun to use personal pronouns not matching their sex, she thought it was appropriate to inform their parents. As a result, she was fired. [2, 3, 4]

Women’s sports and public washrooms

In San Diego, a young girl complained when she found a man in the women ‘s locker room of a YMCA swimming pool, whose rules allow transsexuals to use the washroom they prefer. [5]

Simple exhibitionists? Not at all. Riley Gaines is a professional swimmer who has dared to criticize the participation of male athletes in women’s competitions on the grounds that they believe themselves to be women, given the obvious advantage they enjoy in terms of physical performance.

The trans extremists made her pay dearly for the affront, assaulting her, insulting and forcing her to remain locked in a room for three hours with the police to protect her from the abusers. [6] San Francisco State University, where the attack took place, obviously took the side of the extremists. [7]

Too much even for Caitlyn Jenner, a conservative transsexual, who points the finger at trans fanatics calling them the “rainbow mafia.”

Gender in schools

The situation in Canada is particularly worrisome, to the point that the Italian Telegram channel Der Einzige has reported on it. [8] Schools actively teach children that sexuality is fluid and teachers lecture on books about transgender children. [9]

Kayla Lemieux is an Ontario school teacher who finds educational to show up in class with giant fake boobs. The school defended Lemieux until her parents threatened to take legal action. [10]

Soon, however, parents who find fault with these “educational” initiatives may have a hard time. Kristyn Wong-Tam, member of the Provincial Parliament of Ontario for the NDP (leftist party), presented a bill that, if approved, would ban protests against drag queen shows dedicated to children. [11, 12]

With it being understood that drag-queens and trans are not necessarily the same thing, a double problem arises: of merit (it is at least questionable to allow drag-queen performances for children), and of method (because peaceful demonstrations of dissent would be prohibited under the guise of fighting hate).

Someone should ask Kristyn Wong-Tam if it would be appropriate to teach kindergarteners the joys and inclusiveness of straight sex by having prostitutes reading fairy tales and hold seminars on their job performances.

Authoritarian turn

Don’t think you are safe if you attend a Catholic school. Josh Alexander is an Ontario student who was arrested for arguing that men and women are different, and that there are only two genders. [13]

There are many examples of the authoritarian turn taking place in the land of the maple trees, with the exemplary punishment of those who dare to deviate from the sacred verb of gender fluidity.

Worrying signs can also be seen in Europe. A British midwife lost her job for daring to say only women can get pregnant. [14, 15] An unforgivable linguistic crime to the ears of those who made up the term birthing people, as if childbirth was no longer the prerogative of women.

Sexualization of children

The London-based association Caba Baba Rave organizes drag queen shows for kids. [16, 17] It can be defined, for all intents and purposes, as kids’ sexualization, a topic already discussed on Atlantico. [18]

If, on one side, videos showing performances of sexual nature during events labelled for “family” [19] may seem disturbing, on the other side it is very hard to find an adequate adjective to define a group of trans teachers who, on Reddit, discuss on how to manipulate children into embracing transgenderism. [20]

Even home is no longer safe for kids. On Netflix it is possible to watch a cartoon featuring a little non-binary bison, meaning that it feels neither male nor female. [21]

The video was uploaded on YouTube by a gay man who openly declares to oppose woke ideology, of which transgenderism is an important part, and clearly states there are only two genders: a ray of sunshine in an increasingly gloomy sky.

Transgenderism goes mainstream

In short, transgenderism is on the crest of the wave, cooler than ever: it is featured and promoted on shows, parades (transsexuals have long been part of the big LGBTQ rainbow family), and TV.

Anheuser-Busch, producer of the famous Budweiser beer, has chosen the transsexual Dylan Mulvaney as its poster person, which has not failed to arouse controversy. [22] Have you ever seen a discriminated and marginalized group being so fashionable as to advertise a beer in the United States?

What is the message they want to get across? There is nothing wrong with being trans, or it’s a trendy thing? Live and let live or force people to say it is great, to avoid the mark of bigotry?

It is important to note that we are not dealing with a few lunatics, but with a phenomenon that is now systemic. Ketanji Brown Jackson during a session of the US Senate, for the confirmation of her nomination by Biden as a judge of the Supreme Court, said she was unable to define what a woman is, justifying herself with the fact that she is not a biologist. [23]

Perhaps someone should have asked the judge if it takes a master’s degree in biology or veterinary medicine to distinguish a dog from a cat.

Bhavik Kumar, director of trans health at Planned Parenthood‘s (a network of abortion organizations in the United States) claimed, during a hearing in the House of Representatives, that men can get pregnant, sparking the anger of Republican Andrew Clyde who was questioning him. [24]

Are there any limits or it is all permitted?

Poor Clyde may be unaware that the pregnant man emoji was introduced on internet some time ago. When reality is abolished to be replaced by fantasy, what is the limit to set for fantasy?

If a male can identify himself as a female, as in the case of transsexuals, what can prevent a man from identifying himself as a hippo or an airplane? Or a cat maybe? A Norwegian girl claims to be a cat trapped into a human body [25], while an Australian girl has had her “right” to behave like a feline at school recognised, provided that she does not distract her classmates. [26] Who knows if she purrs at her teacher for a better grade?

If I hit my head hard and began to identify myself as Napoleon Bonaparte, would it be legitimate or not to put a limit on my claims?

By reason of my beliefs, I could certainly dress like the Emperor of France and keep one hand in my breast pocket, since such a behavior, however bizarre, would pose no threat to myself or anyone else. But simple common sense suggests that I could neither claim a driver’s license in the name of Napoleon Bonaparte, nor could I show up at the Elysée in Paris and kick Macron’s ass shouting “L’empereur est de retour“, the emperor is back.

In short, I am entitled to basic human respect, but without legitimizing and formalizing my obsessions. Being lucid in an upside-down world is certainly not easy, but we must remain faithful to reality, at the cost of being accused of transphobia or offending someone’s feelings. As the British comedian Ricky Gervais says: “Just because you feel offended doesn’t mean you’re right”.
